Cliqset Salmon demonstration

Cliqset has always been a big supporter of open standards and there aren’t many in the social space that don’t support. Take OpenID, OAuth, PubSubHubbub and Activity Streams to name of a few. One of the more recent protocols we’ve added support for is called “Salmon“.

What is Salmon? Simply put, it’s a messaging protocol designed to help users interact with each other beyond the boundaries of a single social network or website. Users can share content and carry on real-time conversations one on one or in large groups.

Cliqset and Status.net are two of the first to have implemented it but we won’t be the last. There is a lot of momentum behind distributed social networking (DiSo) and before long we expect to see a large network of Salmon-enabled services around the web.

With this in mind, and because most users aren’t currently familiar with Salmon (as it should be), we thought it would be fun to put out a quick demonstration of how Salmon can be used by users communicate between Status.net and Cliqset.
